I had a couple of hours in between day work and night shift, and caught "Fantastic Four" on theatre because "The island" isn't playing yet.
With lack of a better term, the movie sucked. It probably did no justice to the original comic (though I can't really say for sure without actually reading it), and it certainly didn't perform as a well written motion picture.
This isn't exactly a review, but my 2 cents on why this movie isn't working as compared to other recent comic-turned movies like Spidy and X-men. In these films, the superhero do the things they do because of something. There's a purpose, higher or not, that motivates what they do. "With great power comes great responsibility" for spidy, struggle for co-existance with human for the x-men. The four fantastic figures just do what they do because they have the powers. Ha, yeah, must be fun.
It's interesting to see heros struggle. See them make hard choices, when they're pushed against the wall with not a lot of options. The though process, the choices, the scarifies, is what makes them hero in our mind.
Incidentally, this is exactly the same reason in my opinion why the new batman begins movie works so well. Everything he does, there's a reason behind it. There's a whole theme of how people deal with fear. Everything just makes sense, even if it's a superhero movie.
