My buddy Glenn introduced me to this wonderful photoblog, Girl behind the camera by Susie Lin. One photo essay in particular striked him, and then myself, very deeply. Give it a read, and you'll understand.
Blogs are great communication tools. You don't know anything about the blogger, yet you share his / her view, you understand what he / she's going through. A few simple words, perhaps a picture or two, and you're connected to the author.
Words can be very powerful, but they can only be as powerful as the willingness of the author to open up his or her world. In this case, Susie was willing to open up to the world his feeling of the worlds. Perhaps she's doing this subconciously, but it is this openness that is the vehicle to deliver the connection between the writter and readers. Everyone can blog, but only a select few can open up their world and effectively illustrate how they feel.
Another emotional experience I had recently was with "The Epiphany Edition"[mp3] of Digital Flotsam [iTunes Link] by P.W. Fenton. P.W. shared his life experience with his life-long friend, lessons he'd learnt, and delivered it with such authenticity and emotion that captured not only my attention, but my heart.
Blogs and podcasts are wonderful not because of the technology, but the people, the personality, and the emotion.s
